About MLH

Martin Locke Homes (MLH) is a respected construction company located in Townsville, North Queensland. It was founded in 2010 by former plumber and sportsman Martin Locke.

Prior to launching MLH, Martin was one of two founding directors of Ramlock Properties Pty Ltd and constructed approximately 50 projects between 2005 and 2010. One of Ramlock's feature projects included being the successful tenderer for one of Australia's first Platinum Level (LHAG)/AS1428 Disability group homes for Cootharinga NQ.

The experience and perspective gained through that project of how simple accessible design features could dramatically and positively impact the lives of those living in a home, ignited Martin's passion for including inclusive design features in all homes he would build.

His award-winning very first Martin Locke Homes Display Home was 'before its time', including accessible living features that were revolutionary in Townsville. The MLH rebated sliding door was and still is a signature MLH inclusion.

MLH went on to include accessible features such as the rebated slider, step-free home entry, and wider halls and doorways as standard in all its home designs.

In 2018, the overwhelming generosity of a group of over 60 Townsville construction trades and businesses helped Martin Locke Homes raise in excess of $150,000 to build the Platinum Level home affectionately called 'Nolan's Home'.

Nolan, who was five at the time of construction, was born prematurely at just 26 weeks, when an infection resulted in a brain injury that left him living with cerebral palsy.

In 2019, MLH became the first NQ builder to construct a Gold Level accessible, multigenerational display home with its awardwinning Family 310 display.

That same year, MLH built Townsville's first SDA -High Physical Support home for Yumba Meta Ltd and continues to build SDA projects for Yumba Meta and other leading disability housing providers to this day.

As a business with a growing social conscience MLH will continue to lead the way in SDA construction as we look to also invest our experience, energy and effort into another critical housing need, which is addressing the ever-increasing shortages in the affordable and social housing sectors. It is part of MLH's longterm strategic plan to be the community builder of choice for these homes.

The Leila Avenue project was revolutionary in many ways. Constructed under the Ramlock Properties banner for Cootharinga North Queensland, it was Martin's first project ever tendered on, as well as his first disability project, and first project completed under a Federal Government Grant program.

It also ignited Martin's passion for accessible design and construction and his commitment to include inclusive design features in all homes he would build in the future through his own company Martin Locke Homes.

Nolan was born prematurely and when his little body was overcome by an infection he suffered a brain injury which means he now lives with Cerebral Palsy. It impacts his ability to talk and walk but his parents are determined for him to live as independently as possible.

When they came to Martin Locke Homes with the hope of building a home that would provide Nolan with that opportunity, the MLH trade and supply community rallied. Raising around $150,000 in goods and services to make Nolan's home a reality. The home included a ceiling hoist, fully accessible bathrooms and kitchen, and heated therapy pool with accessible pathways around the home.
